
It occurred to me today, as I was playing with liquid nitrogen, that for as much as I cart my camera to lab with me, I rarely take any photos in the lab. Because a) it’s weird to explain to people that I’m a photographer too; and b) usually I’m too damn busy running around doing experiments.
But liquid nitrogen is rad. So here are not one, but two photos of it. Unfortunately, I didn’t really get to capture the crazy vapor from it like I wanted to – maybe next time. But in the photo on the right, you can see it boiling in the ice bucket holding my frozen samples. And on the left, you can see what it does to the metal tube it comes out of – that thing completely frosts over. Neat.
