Sunday was an interesting day. I met up with Kelly at Rebecca’s because we both had some work to get done. And we managed to go about 45 minutes before we launched into a conversation that ended up lasting around 6 hours. Pretty impressive, considering I’m not much of a talker.
I think we touched on just about every important thing in our lives – relationships we have versus relationships we want, our respective thesis projects and the progress we are making on them, what we want to do after graduate school, where we want to live, etc. It was pretty crazy.
At about the 3-hour mark, it became clear that the crowd in Rebecca’s was segueing into a “more study, less talk” sort, so we walked across the street to the Whistlestop for a couple of drinks and another 3 hours of talk. At one point, we were the only people in the bar besides the bartender. I had forgotten how peaceful Sunday afternoons/early evenings are there. And then Dennis showed up and was all “Where have you been? I haven’t seen you in so long!” which just warmed my heart.
Another thing that warms my heart? Kelly seems pretty confident that I’m going to be out of grad school at this time next year. I’m not sure what that’s based on, other than my current level of motivation and sheer force of will, but it made me smile. So there’s that.
