Photos: Coachella Day One

Unlike most people, for me the first day of Coachella did not end with The Verve. After they started, I still had two other bands to cover – the first being the lovely Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.

I had heard lots of blog-gushing about 100 Days, 100 Nights but hadn’t managed to get myself a copy yet. But it didn’t matter. With this type of music, it’s not about knowing the words to the songs – it’s about moving your feet (and ass) to the rhythm. And marveling at Jones’ voice. I twittered it then, and I’ll reiterate (retwitterate?) it now – if Tina Turner and James Brown ever had a love child, it would pretty much be Sharon Jones. Her voice was amazing, and even more amazing was how solid it was while she danced and jittered about the stage.
