Explosions in the Sky Opening for the Smashing Pumpkins

Not a combination that I would have predicted.

Explosions in the Sky will be opening shows for the Smashing Pumpkins this fall, and they are working on putting together an international tour, including Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia shows. From the band:

Hi eveyone,

We’re quite surprised to be announcing some new tour dates. And we’re even more surprised to announce that these tour dates will involve us opening up for Smashing Pumpkins (memories of skipping gym class to go and buy “Siamese Dream” the day it came out are starting to flood in). We’re approaching this tour the same way we approach every tour, with excitement and some heavy nerves. Anyway, it should be interesting. Hopefully we will see some of you in some of these rooms.

We also, have a handful of festival dates coming up (one in Baltimore, two in Canada, and one in Fort Worth). Lots more tour dates are being worked on (including make up shows for some of our cancelled European dates). We are also working on South American, Austrailian, and Asian tours. We’ll keep you posted about all of this, but these tours won’t be starting until early 2008.

And, again, thank you for all the kind words and well wishes that have been sent to us the past couple of months. Things are still pretty rough at the moment but its nice to know that there are people on our side.

As always, thank you for your time and lending us your ears.

Love,
Explosions

Tour dates are listed on their website.

They absolutely killed live when they played the Epicenter here, so if you’ve got a chance to see ’em, I’d do it. The only problem with opening for the Smashing Pumpkins is that they’ll probably be putting the Pumpkins to shame.
