As much as I loved Rural Alberta Advantage’s Hometowns last year, I have not yet managed to see them live. This is mostly their fault for not scheduling any tour dates on the west coast, but partly my fault for not seeing them last Wednesday night in Chicago (I was at the Darnielle/Vanderslice show instead).
And partly my fault for not heading to SXSW this year, where I hear they played an absolutely amazing set in a church.
But fortunately, Paste managed to track them down for an acoustic set during SXSW, and you can view it, as well as a short interview, here. It’s completely worth it to watch it all the way through – the last song, “In the Summertime,” is breathtaking. It made my heart hurt. In a good way.
