I downloaded the new(ish) Doveman album With My Left Hand I Raise the Dead the other day, and am just getting around to listening to it. I hesitated downloading it from eMusic for a few months, because the song samples seemed kind of “meh” to me. But I finally went for it, and I’m really glad I did – it’s phenomenal. It sort of conjures up the same mood for me as Beck’s Sea Change, but gets there by taking a whole different route. Buy it. You’ll be happy.
Cat Power’s new album of covers, appropriately titled Jukebox, is now streaming on MuchMusic. I plan on listening to it as soon as I’m done with the Doveman album, although I’m tempted to put the album on pause just to listen to her cover of “Blue.” Midori played “Lived in Bars” last night on Big Sonic Chill while I was on my way home from the Belly Up, and it was pretty much the best possible way to end the night.
