On June 23rd, Firethorn played their 100th (and possibly last) show at the Casbah. Chris, the singer/guitarist, recently moved to Pittsburgh, but came back to San Diego for this show. Obviously, it was a show I was not going to miss.
Speaking of Chris, he’s quite an energetic frontman. It’s pretty much guaranteed that he’ll take his shirt off at some point in the set, and almost just as likely that he’ll end up rolling around on the stage. For this show, he took it a bit further, but we’ll get to that.
If you’ve ever been to one of Tim Pyles’ Anti-Monday League shows, you should be familiar with Sean, or at least his hair. When onstage, he has the habit of bobbing his head back and forth, something that I kept trying to capture all night. He’s also one of the nicest guys in the local music scene.
Remember how I mentioned that Chris tends to get a little crazy onstage? Well, since this was potentially their last show, he definitely poured everything into it.
He ended the show by climbing up on one of the amps, then jumping off of it – directly into Sean. I tried to record it as best as I could, for posterity’s sake.
I really hope this isn’t the end for Firethorn, as they are a great band and a great group of people. Here’s hoping that Chris moves back to San Diego!
