Show Review: Sigur Ros @ Copley Symphony Hall, 10/01/2008

Last Wednesday was quite a day. Around midday, Daye invited me to go to the Sigur Ros soundcheck at Copley Symphony Hall. With a choice between setting up a multi-hour experiment and leaving early to see Sigur Ros, ummm, I chose the latter. Thank god grad school is flexible like that.

We hung out in the lobby of the Symphony Hall for about a half hour, waiting for Sigur Ros to be ready. Then we got to watch about 3 or 4 songs, and all received signed posters. They sounded gorgeous as always, and made me even more excited for the show that night. Since I wasn’t shooting the actual performance, I snuck a few photos in during soundcheck:

After that, I went home for some dinner. Then it was back to Copley for the show. And it was amazing. Maybe it’s because lately Sigur Ros, along with Explosions in the Sky, have helped quell some anxiety issues related to grad school (show me a grad student that DOESN’T have anxiety issues). Maybe it’s because they manage to produce this crazy, ethereal, almost spooky sound that always explodes into massive relief. Whatever it is, it was just what I needed that night. I can’t think of another band that could have properly put a cap on my crazy 7-shows-in-8-nights week.

And the confetti at the end? In any other situation it might have been cheesy. In this one, it was beautiful, joyous, and absolutely perfect. I had to whip out the SD1000 for that moment:
