February 2011 mixtape

Spraypaint heart

A little background on this photo. I shot it last Saturday night, after Justin Townes Earle’s set at the Casbah. It was right next to the driver’s side door of my parked car, but I hadn’t noticed it when getting out of my car earlier.

Later that night, I ended up quoting The Silver Jews’ “Random Rules” (I asked the painter/why the roads are covered in black/He said, “Steve, that’s because people leave/and no highway can bring them back.”). It all fit together in such perfect little pieces that I had to open up my February mixtape with the song.

In the name of fair warning, it’s somewhat of a hibernation mix. ENJOY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

1. The Silver Jews – Random Rules
Every line in this song is amazing. But when I start quoting David Berman, it’s time to put me to bed.
